St. John’s Church Hildenborough

A Worshipping Community, Serving the Community

Who are we?

St. John's is part of the
Church of England, which in turn is part of the world-wide 'Anglican Communion.' In England the churches which are part of the Church of England are divided into geographical areas known as dioceses. Hildenborough is in the
Diocese of Rochester which is presided over by the Bishop of Rochester. The clergy in any particular Church are appointed by the Diocese.

Our clergy here at St. John’s are John Chandler (our vicar) who is stipendiary assisted by our part time curates, Simon Braid and Liz Toy who are volunteers (non stipendiary). We are self funded. St. John’s is a community of Christian believers who mainly live in and around Hildenborough.  We’re a mixture of ordinary people of different ages, backgrounds and personalities, who have discovered that God is interested in, and cares passionately for, each one of us and all people, and has a plan for each one of us.  We would like everyone in Hildenborough to experience this for themselves and therefore we see ourselves as ‘a worshipping community, serving the community’.  We are certainly not perfect but have found that God makes a tremendous difference to our lives and we seek to support and encourage each other in our faith.
